”I have fallen in love with Riga – music here has managed to preserve something that elsewhere has been lost during the 1970s,” says trombone virtuoso, world-renowned musician and composer Christian Lindberg, who is now involved in a working group striving to arrange an international classical music festival in Riga in 2012.The initial title “Riga Resonance” has been replaced by the working name “NB8 Classical Music Festival” in order to underline the regional scope of the event – the Nordic and Baltic countries. The principal idea of the festival is to strengthen cultural ties among the region’s countries and to provide possibilities for the nurturing of young talents. The young performers will be given the opportunity to display their skills not only by the way of competing among themselves but also by playing alongside some of the leading world musicians.
The working group of the festival is comprised of musician Christian Lindberg, Head of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia Imants Gross, conductor and art director of the State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga” Normunds Šnē and marketing and PR expert Per-Anders Jämtnäs.
To discuss the festival’s idea and goals, conductor Normunds Šnē and Head of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia Imants Gross met with Christian Lindberg at Spikeri Concert Hall.
